Reading and Spelling

Reading

Reading books will be changed each Friday, if three reads have been documented or the book has been finished. As texts get longer, it may be that children keep their book for a couple of weeks so that they can get to the end of each text. Please remember to document every read, even if it is not the school book so that I can see what children are accessing at home in addition to their school reading. Every read counts! If three reads have been documented, children will get a tick on our class chart and will receive a prize each week. If you have anything you wish to discuss about your child's reading, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Spelling

We now have new spelling books, which will be sent home each Friday. The week's spellings will be in the front of the book, so children can practise at home. Please do not use the tables in the spelling books to practise, as we will be filling them up each week with new words! The test will take place the following Friday, and children will need to bring in their spelling books so that the test can be written in the back and you as parents/carers can see how well they are doing. Then, new spellings will be put into the front for the next week. This means that books need to be in school every Friday please. In the middle of the spelling books, you will find some guidance on how to practise spellings at home and some words and spelling rules that we will be focusing on throughout the year. If you wish to discuss anything further, I am always happy to chat about progress or support.

We really appreciate the work that you do at home in order to enhance your child's understanding of both reading and spelling. Initially, we will concentrate on these as homework tasks, before adding in extra tasks, such as Maths or Reading Comprehension, when appropriate.
