Elmton Class - Year 1

Welcome to Elmton Class!

Dear Parents/Carers and Children,

I hope that you are all excited for the year ahead. We are going to have so much fun! Each half term, there will be a curriculum newsletter attached, so that you can keep informed with what your child will be learning about.

Reading Books

Children will be given a book and will be expected to read at least three times in a week. Books will be changed on a Monday. The reading log will need to be filled in each week by grown ups to confirm that children have read three times that week. Reading logs will be checked on a Friday. Please ensure your child brings their reading log and book to school everyday.

Homework

As before, homework will be given out to the children on a Friday and the hand in date will be the following Wednesday. Homework will be based on work that the children have been doing in class with a focus on Maths and English/phonics alternating each week. Please email homework to elmton@st-lukes.notts.sch.uk or hand it in at school.

Spellings

This year the children will be given a spelling book with their spellings for the week. Children should practise their spellings at home ready for the spelling test on the Wednesday.

P.E

Our P.E. lesson will be on a Tuesday and a Thursday. Children should come to school wearing the appropriate school sportswear for P.E consisting of a green, yellow or white T-shirt with plain black shorts or joggers. Earrings should be removed or covered and long hair should be tied back. Children do not need to bring their uniform.

Morning Routine

Please ensure that your child is lined up on the front playground at 8:40am, so that children are in the classroom ready for 8.45am.

Please can I ask for pencil cases and toys/teddies to be left at home for this next academic year so that this prevents any risk of belongings being lost or damaged. All equipment needed will be provided by school. Children are welcome to bring a book bag or school bag if they wish. We have a cloakroom area where children can hang up their coats, so please only bring what you need for the day.

If you have any queries or concerns then please do not hesitate to contact me via the class email or the school office.

Thank you,
Miss K. Earle
