World Mental Health Day- 10th October 2024

We have had a lovely day in Thoresby class to mark World Mental Health Day. As usual, our Thursday morning started with a drumming lesson with Tommy. We have continued learning about paradiddles and have impressed Tommy so much that he has started to teach us to drum along to George Ezra's song Shotgun. We are looking forward to learning more next week!

I then asked the children what mental health is. One child told me that it is the importance of looking after our brain. We spoke about all of the ways that we can look after our brain and the children came up with the following:

- plenty of sleep

- drinking lots of water

- talking to others about our worries

- distracting ourselves when we are sad

- being kind and caring to one another including thinking carefully about our words

- eating well

We spoke about the importance of eating lots of fruits and vegetables. We then worked in small groups to prepare a fruit salad. We chopped up the fruit and took the time to communicate with one another about our interests. Later on in the day, we were able to enjoy the fruit salads that we made- many children tried new fruits for the first time!

After lunch, we had a class vote to determine the activities that we would like to do in PE. Some children chose to be outside, playing football as it made them happy. These children worked really well in their teams and were kind and respectful throughout the game.

Other children enjoyed spending time in the classroom, following Just Dance and yoga videos.

Our final activity of the day was making friendship bracelets. The children supported one another to plait the wool; many children choosing to help their friends before starting theres! Well done children!
