We have begun reading our new focus text - The Unlucky Eleven and we love it so far. We are going to be writing our mystery stories this half term and this text allows us to learn more about how to build up suspense and tension because there is lots in the book already! We have found out that the football team, who were unbeatable, now can't win a game and they think they have been cursed! This week, we have been writing spooky adjectives and also generating a range of ideas for our own football-related mystery stories. We also wrote some character descriptions using our knowledge of adjectives.
This week, we have been working hard on building suspense within our writing using different methods such as short sentences and ellipsis. We have talked a lot about how to build up to the main problem of our mystery stories and making sure we are not giving it away too early! We have begun to write our stories and have focused on a different part each day.
Now that we have planned and written our mystery stories, we have moved on to looking at instructions, which is non-fiction writing. We have studied different types of instructions and picked out key features that are in them all, such as a title, equipment list, bullet points/numbered list, imperative verbs and time conjunctions! We are now writing our own instructions to apply what we have learnt.
